Christoph Brech

Christoph Brech was born in Germany in1964.His creative work, internationally exhibited, includes video films, photography, installations and art in public space. His work focuses on the eternal questions of loss, mortality, remembrance. Christoph Brech's images flow like a slow stream which subjects time, space and the observer's vision to a reduced rhythm of perception. The contemplative poetry of his art stands in contrast to our accelerated pace of daily living.

《天堂》Paradiso

Paradiso

Christoph Brech's video “Paradiso” was created for the 90-minute long production “Visions” based on Dante's Divine Comedy. Following the sequences “Inferno” and “Purgatorio”, whose images suggest our earthly experience, “Paradiso” abandons the conventional references to known reality and finds in the abstraction of pure colour a metaphor for that transcendental condition beyond time and space. Sheets of colour, although taken from nature, allow no association to familiar earthly phenomena. Like an endless flood of light, panels of colour spread across the screen, blend into one another, re-form in continuous variation. Like a never ending stream of music, Palestrina's “Ave Maria” weaves its melodic strains of song to accompany this vision of “paradiso”.
